Live Updates at 6 pm, Saturday, July 24: Group Hacks – Order of the day
Piyush from OnMobile Global Ltd, Rajat from the Amazon Development Center in Chennai, Raghav from Neev Technologies, and Tushar, a software architech from Chandigarh, had met through the YDN forum and that’s where their idea of a group hack came about. They’re working to simplify search through their hack. Will it be mission accomplished? We’ll know soon.
Another group, three friends – Ankur Patel from Thomson Reuters, Yatin Kumar from Aditya Birla and Ankur Gupta from 3PAR Inc, together are trying to collate data from the Election Commission site and hope to come up with a solution for democracy. That’s all we know for now. Wonder if we’re on the verge of a breakthrough. The hack results will be announced at 06:00 pm, Sunday, July 25. So stay tuned.
*********
Of the 13 Yahoo! hack days we have had globally so far, this has been confirmed as the biggest ever, totaling 560 participants, with 440 hackers and 120 info-geeks. The much-awaited 24-hour Yahoo! Open Hack Day has begun at The Taj Residency in Bangalore. In his inaugural talk, Jeff Kinder, Senior Vice-President – Media Products & Solutions, had this to say:
We’ve had a record-breaking number of registrations – 2,350, with the numbers skyrocketing from day one. Developers from over 16 states in India, and a few from outside the country registered for the event.
Hack days are a way for us to showcase our open technology and foster innovation in the developer community.
And for you (hackers & info geeks), it’s an opportunity to show off your skills, get recognized by peers, and work on new and exciting technologies.
Let me take a few moments to share some fantastic success stories that have come out of past Yahoo! Open Hack events. From our internal hacks in Brazil, we incorporated the Meme hack as part of our product portfolio. In Indonesia, we were so impressed with the Koprol hack that we eventually acquired it. So have fun and show us what you’ve got.
Earlier, Shouvick Mukherjee, Vice President and Head, Yahoo! India Research & Development, said:
The 3rd edition of Open Hack Day in India has attracted the largest ever participation so far. Yahoo!’s mission is to nurture a developer community that fosters innovation and thought leadership in this domain. For the first time, we are also bringing together leaders from across the industry to drive conversations on innovation through an Innovation Conference that runs in parallel.
